Divorces are tough on many aspects of your life, from your finances through to your social life, but they’re often most damaging to your love life. After all, it’s hard to image spending time with someone else after your divorce, so you may choose to retreat into yourself and refrain from spending time with others, but this would be a mistake. Getting back into dating is vital to improving your mental well being, so you should consider taking the time to find a way to reintroduce yourself to the dating space.

Here are some top tips on how you can make dating work for you after a divorce.

Remember That It’s Not Just You

getting back into dating after divorce - it's not just you

Whilst divorce rates in the UK have been slowly decreasing over recent years, they remain strong, and there’s no way of recording how many people suffer the breakup of a long-term relationship but weren’t married. As such, it’s important that you remember that you’re not alone; there are loads of people out there recovering from the disintegration of an important relationship. Try your best to remember what you enjoyed about dating and consider your divorce as a chance to enter into an exciting new adventure.

Try Practicing On An Escort

If you don’t feel ready for a new relationship, then try testing out your skills on an escort first. They will have the experience to understand the dating market and will be able to gently guide you through the evening so that you feel confident and ready to face the dating world again. Some escort companies, like Adultseek, even provide a dedicated girlfriend experience so that you can practice being in a relationship without the commitment that this usually entails.

Use Online Dating To Meet New People

getting back into dating after divorce - online dating

There are loads of dating sites out there, and they each offer a unique way to meet people without having to spend lots of time and money going out and hanging around in specific bars. Find the site that’s best for you and then make an honest profile that reflects you and what you’re looking for from your new relationship. Be honest about your divorce and what you’re expecting from any connection you make so that you don’t end up disappointed. Make sure that your picture is up to date to avoid making them feel cheated when you arrive and don’t look anything like your profile photo. Honesty and openness will ensure that you find the right people and don’t waste your time going on dates that lead nowhere.

Take The Time To Find The Right Person

It’s important that you find the right person to go on your first date after your divorce, so take the time to get to know a few people before you take the plunge. Find someone you have a real connection with and suggest a meeting in a suitable place where you’ll both feel comfortable. Try not to put too much pressure on the first date and keep things casual so that you don’t scare them off and instead try to make a real connection.

Be Friends First

getting back into dating after divorce - be friends first

When you initially meet someone you like, be their friend first to see how things go. If you both feel like you want to take the relationship further then this can be easily achieved, but if it doesn’t work out then you haven’t wasted your time and have still made a new friend. Befriending them first also takes the pressure off both of you and will make you feel less concerned about how the relationship is progressing. After a big trauma like a divorce it can be easy to want to jump straight back in and make a commitment again, but this might not be the best option for either of you, so take the time to get to know them and work out what you’re both looking for in the early stages.

Don’t Give Up

Getting back into dating after your divorce is always going to be tough, but remember that you won’t immediately succeed, and it might take several tries to find the person who’s right for you. The important thing is that you keep trying and put yourself out there. Being in a relationship can give you a range of surprising health benefits, and so it’s important that you keep going out and trying to find someone to share the rest of your life with.

It’s never going to be easy to get back into dating after a divorce, but by following these tips you should be able to make the transition easier for yourself. Remember to take everything at your own pace and only do as much as you feel able to. You might not meet the love of your life on your first date, but each experience provides you with the chance to learn more about yourself and your preferences now that you’re single again.

Hi, I'm Marc Summers

marc summers of major league dating

I used to suck big time with women, dating, and relationships even though I was nicer than other guys, tried my hardest, and followed all of the dating advice. The women I landed, unsurprisingly, weren’t very picky or hard to get and I regularly got cheated on and dumped. Despite being the nice, generous, thoughtful, and loving guy I thought women wanted, once they got to know me, the attraction disappeared.

The day my girlfriend left me for her ex 30 minutes after hearing he got out jail was the day I decided to get serious, figure out EXACTLY what I was doing wrong, and make some changes.

The next 5 years of my life were spent focusing only on studying psychology, human behavior, effective communication, and leadership, and meeting and dating one woman after another to test out and fine tune what I was learning.

You know what became obvious very quickly?

Your dating and relationship problems have nothing to do with the women and have everything to do with your mindset, behavior, habits, and decisions.

Once you figure out what’s wrong and fix the problems in each one of these areas, your dating life will become easier, less stressful, and more rewarding.

To share the powerful information I learned and make you better with women, dating, and relationships, I’ve written multiple best-selling books and have helped over 1-million men get better results. No matter how screwed up and hopeless your situation seems right now, I can help you improve it.

Dude, you rock. I appreciate your perspective, the information, tips, the advice... It's all been a helpful tool for me.

Hey Marc, I want to thank you! You give a ton of great information, and techniques. My girlfriend has some stuff going on in her life that has forced us to put our relationship on hold. It would’ve been very easy for me to freak out and be a pussy about it, and call and text and piss and moan…but instead, I said…ok. I get it now! Thanks!

Michael

You have been quite possibly my favorite teacher in my life. I wish there was a way to repay you. Thank you very much for following your purposes.

Demitri

Awesome book Im glad I came across this. This will help me to overcome this nasty habit. I’m on my way to a great lifestyle thanks to this book thank you.

Doug M.You've changed a life for the best

I have "Declare War on Yourself" and I've lost count, but I'm guessing I'm on my 15th time listening to it. I actually always have it on a loop. I listen every minute in the car, around the house, and while I'm going to sleep. I'm huge on self-improvement books since my dad got me Think and Grow Rich when I was 13. I'm 46 now, so I've read/listened to them all including all of Tony Robbins seminars, etc. Declare War is THE ONLY one I need now. It is the only one ANYONE would ever need. I just want to thank you a million times over. I even play small snippets for my 5 year old. (where appropriate) I noticed positive changes in my life since the first listen. It's more like an intervention of your life from a friend at a coffee shop. It's a "Dude, you need to get your shit together, and here's how" approach. Thank you for the time you took to write this book. You hit on EVERY area of life. I want you to know you've changed a life for the best. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The techniques you give and everything else is just amazing. Now I will fallow and do everything you say in your book and will write you back to let you know about everything. Thanks again.

You are full of good information. Coming from a nice guy, you have helped me clarify the differences and mistakes I have been making but wasn’t fully aware of. This information is applicable to life, personal, business, friendships, relationships, etc. Take out of it what works for you.

A. Baker

Thank you so much for your help and replying, I actually didn’t think you would. You might be in a handful of people on the internet who actually want to help people on a personal level and not steal their money.

YOU ARE MY HERO!! This is my new beginning. All your advice has been helping me, and I’m about to drop my 2-year-sick-relationship, after understanding the importance of all you just said. Now I Know it’s a process but I’m really committed to this more than ever. I’ll be serious on myself, no more junk in my head, knowing how to handle drama, never ever bitching again, keeping my composure, controlling my feelings, and being a real man!! I don’t know how to express my gratitude

Easy to listen to, simple and effective examples, a great value at this price point. More importantly, it works! I tried some of these techniques and immediately got the results I was looking for, I will definitely get this for my son, thanks!

Aze

Thanks for making and sharing such great videos!

Emily

I really enjoy and relate to your articles / videos and programs. I have purchased a few other dating coach advice booklets and I don’t particularly agree with what they are saying – most of the things they say to do is very cliche. However, most of the things you were saying to do was so true! The section about how to make a girl laugh was very funny and if a boy did that to me I would find him more attractive. I think you should produce more of those booklets – they are so useful! Your humor and the way you talk to girls seems really interesting and seems like it would work. I know a guy who does similar things, he wasn’t that good looking but he ended up being my boyfriend! So your advice is honestly spot on.

Douglas

I just completed the Audiobook 99 Bad Boy Traits and I must say the following: I have heard inspirational talks by Tony Robbins, Brian Tracy, Zig Ziglar, etc and they were good but your book 99 Bad Boy Traits has the been the most important to me and my life. It is like the father/son talk I never got when I was young. It empowers me to be just who I am. The hard work will pay off. You rock my brother.

Chandra

I just finished read your 2 books (how to quit being a loser & 99 bad boy traits) I just wanna thank you so much, my life has changed from the day I started read your free articles on your website, and it really changed me so much more after I purchased the eBooks. I can really felt and sense how women respect me more and felt their attractions towards me after I changed my mindsets and actions. Your taught its universal regardless of our culture and tradition. Thank you so much.

Brian

Tim Ferris said one idea could change your life forever. He is exactly right. I took that lesson that you taught about power and I completely stopped right away giving it up. It totally revolutionized everything. I have become the magnet that You talk about. Girls are flirting with me and I am flirting back and having fun and laughing. They are approaching me instead of me chasing them. One of the best breakthroughs I have had was with a girl that has a huge power trip and I was always kissing her ass until finally I stood up and basically said no. A lot was said back and forth but now, she apologized and our relationship is mutual. But, aside from all the laughy taffy stuff, I have learned to do me, get my own self together, say no, stop kissing ass and chasing girls around. If there is any one thing I have learned from all of my learning is that nothing changes, unless I do. Thanks so much for all you do!

Dear Mr. Summers, I just wanted to contact you to thank you for your wonderful book, 98 ways to stop masturbating. It was a chronic addiction in my youth, but your strategies have helped me overcome it. So, in honor of 98 days in a row of no masturbating and no porn, I wanted to contact you to say thank you. You are doing a good thing. Keep up the good work!
